Original Beans Chocolate is located in the Netherlands and they are doing some really amazing things. They have a One Bar: One Tree approach where they plant a seedling for every chocolate bar sold. When you buy a bar of their chocolate you can go to their website and track your tree by using the code on the back of the package. To date, Original Beans has planted and preserved over 1,000,000 trees in the cacao origins. They are also a Zero Waste company, using natural inks and bio-compostable packaging AND foil. Really cool.
In case you’re like me and have no idea where this bar comes from, it’s hand-picked wild cacao from the Forest islands in the Beni Savannah, Bolivian Amazon. So…Bolivia.
This is an incredibly smooth bar. The amount of cacao butter isn’t specified, but it’s so silky it may be a lot. Which is totally okay with me. I’m finding hints of a peach or jasmine tea sweetened with honey. It’s floral and light and delightful. It’s not the kind of chocolate bar you sit and think about with intensity, but is what I would call a comfort bar. It just is, and it’s good, and I could eat a lot of it.
