5 years ago we were fortunate enough to move to an area where we met a new neighbor that opened our eyes to fine chocolate. Dos Rios was our very first taste. We were surprised to learn that this chocolate that tasted so strongly of orange was due to the uniqueness of the cacao beans, and had no orange in it. Our love for chocolate began that day.
Since then we have had the opportunity to meet the founder of Amano Chocolate, Art Pollard, and tour his factory here in Utah. There he opened our eyes to his amazing drinking chocolate, shared the most delightful inclusion bars he had just made before releasing to the market, and told us many inspiring stories about his journey and life.
In the years since we first tried this bar, it has evolved and so has our pallets. It still remains one of our very favorites.
These days upon tasting, I find strong dried blueberry, bergamot orange, and vanilla. It’s so powerful in aroma and taste that it seems almost perfumed but in a good way. I don’t know how Art has so carefully and scientifically pulled the flavor out of these Dominican beans, but I am glad he’s so good at it.
This most recent batch is probably his best, so go buy it right now. Seriously.
